Keeping textured and polished gold bright

A short, practical routine for keeping hammered and mirror-polished gold looking its best — at home and on display.

Gold jewellery needs very little, but a few habits keep both polished and textured surfaces looking as they did on the first day.

Everyday habits

Textured surfaces

Hammered and nugget surfaces hide small marks well, but dust can settle in the texture. A soft brush and lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, then a thorough dry, is usually all they need.

Polished surfaces

Mirror polish shows fingerprints first. Handle polished pieces by the chain or clasp, and store them so they do not rub against harder pieces.

Store each piece on its own — in a pouch or a lined compartment — so surfaces never touch.
